Best period to travel to Bergamo

In the north of Italy, Bergamo has a mild climate with a few days of rain, particularly in spring. Winter is the driest season of the year, accompanied by temperatures below 0℃. On the other hand, temperatures can easily reach 30℃ in the summer, with milder evenings: perfect for a drink, a bite to eat on the terrace or a night out at one of the many outdoor events.

What Bergamo has to offer?

The City of Mountains

Hop on your flight to Bergamo, just under 2 hours from Nantes, and explore the streets and towering buildings of this medieval city. At the bottom of the city is the modern Città Bassa; at the top is the old Città Alta, surrounded by a fortress- the perfect place to watch the sunset! And don’t forget to visit the impressive Basilica of Saint Mary Major. With its multicoloured marble, tapestries and gilding, it’s a great way to explore the history of the vibrant Italian Renaissance.

A Weekend of Stracciatella

What would a trip to Italy be without enjoying the food? And Bergamo is certainly no exception: especially since it’s the birthplace of Stracciatella. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you could also try Polenta e Osei, a marzipan sponge cake topped with chocolate mousse. And for a unique dining experience, head to Malpaga Castle. With cooking lessons, lunch in period costumes and a gorgeous banquet hall it’s certainly worth a visit!

Just 40 minutes from Bergamo, the spas in San Pellegrino are amongst some of the best in the world. You might also want to walk along the Brembo River to the colossal Grand Hotel, reminiscent of Wes Anderson’s famous Grand Budapest Hotel.
